Frequenlty Asked Questions

QUESTION (Q): How can I be admitted to the Master of Science in Medical Science (MSMS) Program?

ANSWER (A): You must complete and submit the MSMS Program Application for Admission. Some students who apply to IU School of Medicine's medical program using the American Medical College Application Service may be counseled to consider the MSMS opportunity. You will receive an invitation for an interview if you meet the requirements for admission to the program. The Executive and Review Committee of IU School of Medicine's Admissions Committee serve as the MSMS Admissions Committee.

Q: What will the MSMS Program cost?
A:
For the 2005-2006 academic year, tuition is $242.40 per credit hour for Indiana residents, and $712.75 per credit hour for non-residents. Federally subsidized loans are available through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.  Contact
Melissa Titus for further information at 317-278-5242, or via e-mail at mtitus@iupui.edu

Q: Is participation in the summer Medical College Admission Test Preparation Program required?
A: Yes. All admitted students are required to complete this intensive summer program before starting the graduate MSMS curriculum in the fall semester.

Q: Does participation in the MSMS Program guarantee admission to medical school?
A:
No. Re-application to medical school is required. Faculty and staff advise and assist MSMS students in the application process and preparation for the MCAT.

Q: How can I use the MSMS degree if I don't go to medical School?
A:
MSMS graduates also are prepared for careers requiring broad knowledge in the basic biomedical sciences. Some of the course work in the MSMS Program is transferable toward degree requirements in other graduate or professional programs.
